New Web Site Design

OldBoysToys.comIf you have been reading oldboystoys.com for a while now, you probably noticed that we went live with our new web site design on Wednesday. We hope you like it.

This new design provides many features not available on the previous design. Some of these features make it easier for us to create and post content. Many of these features are designed to provide our readers with a better web site experience.

The biggest change to the site is the ability for users to leave comments on product review pages. This will allow readers to share their experience a product to provide other readers with a more varied and diverse viewpoint. It will also provide users with a way to communicate more easily with the writer or editor of the review.

The new design also provides readers with a much easier way to find new and old content. The top navigation bars provides an easy way to go directly to product category pages (e.g., Cars, Games, Hobbies, …), or to feature story pages, such as Toy of the Week. The home page tabber box now allows you to quickly see the latest post in each of the product categories. In addition, the Featured Article boxes below tabber allow you to see what we think are some interesting new product reviews.

Let us know what you think. We are interested in your feedback. Especially if you have any suggestions for more improvements.

  1. Hi this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if
blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • I use WordPress. It is a very popular program for blogging. WordPress.com will host your blog for free, so it’s a good way to start. And, a good way to learn WordPress. You can create a simple blog without any knowledge of HTML. However, if you want to do something unique, or want to implement a specific design look, you probably need to run your own version of WordPress (see WordPress.org). This requires your own server, or a web hosting company that allows you to run your own version of WordPress. That’s what I do for OldBoysToys.com. You have a lot more flexibility than WordPress.com. A more complex design like OldBoysToys.com also requires some knowledge of HTML, and even PHP. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Good luck with your blog,
      Bryan
