Angry Birds Game Review

My whole family seems to be going crazy over Angry Birds, so I thought that I should review it. We have both the iPad and the iPhone versions. Both are great, but the iPad version with Angry Birds HD is my favorite. The larger screen and amazing graphics makes it a winner, and a lot of fun to play.

The Basic Premise

The basic premise of the game is that some pigs stole the bird’s eggs and cooked them. The Angry Birds are out for revenge. You don’t necessarily understand this motivation from playing the game. You need to watch the following cinematic trailer to see how it all got started, and why the birds are angry.

Now that you understand why the birds are angry, it is time to see how they get revenge. In particular, what is your role in helping the birds get revenge.

The Game

The game consists of 180 levels. This makes for many hours of game play. At each level, the birds are trying to get revenge on the pigs by knocking down the pig’s castle, and collapsing it upon them. Your role is to launch a bird at the green pig’s castle, using a slingshot. Although on the surface this seems quite easy, there is a reasonable amount of logic and skill involved.

As the castles get more complex, you need to figure out where best to strike the castle so it falls down. You then need to figure out the slingshot speed and trajectory to hit that point in the castle. The physics of the game are very good. The speed and trajectory of the launch depend on the angle and distance you pull back the slingshot. The bird flight, striking of the castle, and collapse of the castle, all behaves in a cartoony, yet realistic way. If you can figure out the required physics, you can achieve the desired strike and resulting collapse.

The following game trailer will give you an idea of the game, the characters, and the graphics.

So, now you understand how the game works. Its time to look at the different levels.

Game Levels

It is impossible to even begin describing all 180 of the game levels here. Especially since I haven’t worked my way through them all. The first levels are relatively easy. They get more difficult as you progress through the levels. The green pigs get more creative in building their protective castle, so you need to get better at knocking it down. The following video will give you a sense for the first 5 levels.

Okay, now its time to get angry at those pigs and help the birds. The Angry Birds game is available for the iPad and iPhone through the Apple Store. The game is also available for other devices such as the Palm and Nokia phones. Interested in more detail, check out the Rovio Mobile, Inc. web site:
