Journey Begins in 4 Weeks

2010 BMW R1200RT MotorcycleLess than 4 weeks until the start of my journey. Planning a 10,000 mile motorcycle ride is proving more difficult than I expected. I’m still reading about what to pack, what to expect, and deciding on the trip route. What to pack is probably the easiest thing. I have found a couple of good books with packing lists. What to expect is also somewhat easy. Again, there are motorcycle long distance riding books that highlight what to expect, and how to prepare for the unexpected. However, unlike my packing list, there is considerable uncertainty in what might actually happen. I need to plan for problems that may or may not happen.

What I’m finding the most difficult is planning the route. Crossing Canada and the United States provides lots of route possibilities. More than I can explore in 6 weeks. I’m now trying to balance scenic roads and destinations, and riding back roads versus major highways, so I can fit as much in as possible in 6 weeks.

I found an interesting quote from T.S. Elliot. “Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.”

Keep following along. I’ll keep you posted as I prepared for my journey, and then while I’m on it.
