Motorcycle Road Trip 2011 – Days 24 to 27

Red Cliffs and Sand Stone at Cavendish Beach, PEI

Red Cliffs and Sand Stone at Cavendish Beach, PEI

Day 24 of my motorcycle road trip. I’m firmly planted at our cottage in Stanley Bridge, PEI. As usual, the first thing my family wanted to do was go to Cavendish Beach. Cavendish a beautiful beach, very popular with the tourists. Although the locals often prefer one of the many more secluded beaches.

Cavendish Beach, part of the Cavendish Beach National Park, is about 2 miles from our cottage. It is a nice sandy beach, with a life guarded area for the kids. Although my daughters are very good swimmers, being both part of a swim team, and playing water polo. However, we still tend to stay in the life guarded beach area.

While my family lays on the beach reading, I prefer to walk along the coast. Not far from the main beach I can get into sand dunes, along with red cliffs and sand stone. I find something very peaceful about walking a beach. Especially listening to the waves crash against the shore.

I don’t have to walk too far before getting away from the heavily touristed areas. Along the seashore it is easy to find small crabs crawling around in the rocks, and lots of little sea snails. I generally don’t see a lot of fish, but depending on the tides, there can be a lot of jellyfish. Despite the fact that jellyfish just float slowing through the water, it isn’t that uncommon to be stung by one. Getting stung by a jellyfish is fun, but rubbing sand on the wound usually helps.

There is something about my soul that just wants to be moving, whether riding my motorcycle, walking a beach, or exploring a small town or even large city.
